Introducing AlmaLinux-9-based images with frame pointers in crucial packages

Red-Hat-based systems such as AlmaLinux 8 and 9 are prevalent at CERN and the CERN experiments, meaning that Gentoo-based container images provided by us so far may not be possible to be widely adopted there.

Therefore, we are introducing the AlmaLinux-9-based Docker and Apptainer images, where the most crucial packages are compiled with frame pointers and debug symbols:

• glibc
• GCC, including libstdc++, libgcc, and libgfortran
• Python 3

The versions used are consistent with the ones available to download in the AlmaLinux 9 Docker images provided by CERN (gitlab-registry.cern.ch/linuxsupport/alma9-base:latest). Updates to our images will be provided on a regular basis.
